Midori

‘Midori’ translates from Japanese to English as ‘Green’. Martin’s fascination with Japanese music began when he was asked to compose a suite to be released as a single for the Midori no Tohoku Genki Charity, which provide retreats for children suffering from post-traumatic stress following the Tsunami of 2011. It transpired that some highly-regarded practitioners of Japanese music resided in Dublin and after becoming acquainted, the ingredients for the suite were in place.

Following this, Martin was awarded a Deis Bursary from The Arts Council to compose a concert length composition for large ensemble that utilizes aspects of both traditions. This work has now been completed and is awaiting its first performance.
